That’s my former grad student’s book - Megan Devine was an amazing grad student in Goddard’s MFA-IA program back in 1999. It was devastating when she lost her husband. But she used her heartbreak to help others. Grateful for her and her book.

Thank you for this post -- I loved the poem (and enjoy seeing your drawings every Monday!).

I lost my dear brother on Friday the 13th (of June, 2025), and have lost both parents before that.

My immediate family of 6 is now half that with my older sister and younger brother still doing well. I'm OK (I think) with the loss; didn't expect any of us to live forever, but reading your post stirs up rich feelings. I miss them and us. Would like to visit or talk about something in particular with them. I felt good finding my grieving style in your post. Thank you, and sorry to hear about your island's losses in the recent avalanche. I know it's more than the newsworthy number. It reminds me of my own mortality. One's passing blazes a trail for the living.
